Home and Community Care Client Handbook and its translations in 6
community languages.
This client focused multilingual information
resource aims to provide aging communities with a better
understanding of their local council Home and Community Care
Services.
As part of the Culturally Equitable Gateways
Strategy (CEGS) this document was developed and jointly written by
the Cities of Bayside, Glen Eira, Port Phillip, Stonnington and the
New Hope Foundation. The group approached the project with the aim
of creating a document in English that is clear and concise in
language, style and format and that could be easily translated into
multiple community languages.
The Handbook has now been translated into
Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Greek, Italian, Polish and
Russian.
This generic HACC Client Handbook and its
translations can be easily used by other local governments,
organisations and service providers to promote HACC services to
culturally and linguistically diverse
communities.
We strongly encourage organisations to use and
distribute this resource.
We understand that in order to use this
handbook effectively, your organisation may need to tailor the
English version and the relevant translations to particular needs.
Amendments are allowed as long as they are confined to elements of
the handbook not relevant to the organisation, i.e. services not
provided by your organisation, contact numbers and addresses.
Amendments need to be
made in both the English and translated version/s at the cost of
the organisation. An acknowledgment of the original document is
required.
The working party and the organisations they
represent take no responsibility for alterations or changes to the
original document.

The Best Practice Guide to Communication and
Language Services
This best
practice guide was developed by the Inner South Culturally
Equitable Gateways Strategy (CEGS) working group, which is
comprised of the New Hope Foundation and the Cities of Bayside,
Glen Eira, Port Phillip and Stonnington.
The purpose of
this document is to assist Home and Community Care (HACC) workers
to communicate with clients from Culturally and Linguistically
Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, as well as to encourage continuous
improvement and best practice in the way HACC workers and CALD
clients communicate.
People from
CALD backgrounds have been noticeably under represented amongst
users of HACC. Workers need to clearly understand their
clients, and clear communication benefits both the client and
worker. With this in mind,
The Best Practice Guide to Communication and
Language Services has been designed to provide practical
and easy to read suggestions based on principles which are readily
transferable to all communication.
Using these
suggestions should make the job of HACC workers easier and provide
workers with better outcomes for their
clients.
